Spring is a time of renewal when we abandon our days of being confined to the indoors with limited daylight and step outside into the sunshine. Our bodies go through their own renewal as we shed layers of heavy clothes and dry skin and allow our skin to breathe in fewer layers of lighter fabrics. We also trade in the dour drabness of dark colours for the cheerful brilliance of bright colours. We sleep less and shift our diets from an emphasis on a quantity of heavier foods to lighter, quality diets based on the variety and abundance of locally grown fruits and vegetables. We also move much more and take it outside whether it is walking, running, hiking, cycling or swimming. We replace books and courses on heavy subjects for those that are fun, light and less demanding.
This time of renewal allows us to fully embrace the growth, warmth, lightness and brightness of spring, summer and fall. Winter is the time to cocoon when we would often rather stay home in the evenings and on weekends than brave the elements. Spring is a time of freedom when we shed emotional burdens and truly lighten our emotional load. This gives us the capacity to attract new and exciting people, places and experiences into our lives. We emerge in the spring and reconnect with friends and family or forge new connections. New love and friendships blossom at almost the same rate as the trees and flowers in the beautiful parks and gardens that surround us. Spring encourages us to make small changes or to take our lives in a completely new direction. It is a time to explore and sample the smorgasbord of concerts, food and cultural festivals and venues that represent the best that our town, city or country have to offer. Celebrate Spring!
