The Upside of Downtime

While some people enjoy every minute of the long, hot, sunny and humid days of summer, others find this weather makes them unhappy, uncomfortable and unreasonable. The heat can drag, drain and deplete you so whether or not you love it, it may be a good idea to take some downtime. If you feel guilty being idle for even a short period of time and like to stay busy and active, here are eight reasons why there is an upside to downtime.

Reason #1 – Calm Down

Summer is the perfect time to calm down, go with the flow, respond to what matters most and ignore what matters least.

Reason # 2 – Settle Down

Summer is the perfect time to settle down and get down to finishing projects that you have started and doing things that are important to you.

Reason #3 – Quiet Down

Summer is the perfect time to quiet down and turn off the noise that is both inside of your mind and outside in your surroundings.

Reason #4 – Write Down

Summer is the perfect time to write down a list of things that you would love to do and have never had the time, energy or opportunity to do. Start doing one of them every day.

Reason #5 – Wind Down

Summer is the perfect time to wind down and allow gaps in your schedule for posiitve encounters, surprise invitations and spontaneous activities.

Reason #6 – Look Down

Summer is the perfect time to look down from the top of a mountain or a roof of a building so that you can gain some perspective on your personal and professional lives.

Reason #7 – Slow Down

Summer is the perfect time to slow down and notice how well your body is working, how clearly your mind is thinking and how happy your heart is feeling.

Reason #8 – Power Down

Summer is a great time to power down your smartphone, tablet, laptop and/or desktop for two-three hours each week night and on both days of the weekend so you can get outside and enjoy all that summer has to offer you. You will feel refreshed, rejuvenated and reenergized.
